This refreshing drink was first developed in Britain in the mid-1800s. It has since been elevated, and it’s cooler than ever! Comprised of beer mixed with lemonade, ginger ale or ginger beer, I like to make the drink “from scratch” by preparing Homemade Ginger Lemonade (preferably with Meyer Lemons), with the added flavor of mint, for freshness. Cheers…and may the best team win!
Ingredients
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 cups water
- 2 pieces candied ginger
- 2 fresh mint sprigs
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
- Chilled Pale Ale
- Strips of lemon zest for garnish
Instructions
- Combine the sugar, 1 cup of water, the mint, and the candied ginger in a saucepot and bring the mixture to a boil. Stir to dissolve the sugar. Cool the simple syrup to room temperature, then pour it into a pitcher and stir in the lemon juice and remaining water. Refrigerate the lemonade until ready to use.
- To make the Shandys, pour 1/4 cup of the chilled lemonade into each chilled glass and top off with Pale Ale. Garnish with a strip of lemon zest in the glass.
